general goings-on.

part 1: the rant
you know what i hate? the fact that the photography world is so consumed with the idea of "perfection" that real, raw photography isn't even appreciated anymore. example: see my deviation Zoe XX-[link] now, by know means do i think i am an amazing photographer, but i am very happy with how this shot turned out. i of course did retouching on her face, but when it comes to faces, i like to make the skin look smooth and clear without completely overdoing it. i mean come on, who's skin is actually that perfect right? it just doesn't look natural. so as i was saying, i submitted this photo for a critique at my school. when my instructor viewed it, she criticized me for insufficient retouching. her main concerns were the small freckle on her chin and the fact that there were TWO HAIRS out of place. TWO HAIRS! i couldn't beleive it. it just disgusts me that my photos aren't ever good enough unless i edit them to the point that they are fake. how about we get over our distorted view of perfection and view the world and the people in it for how beautiful it actually is? by the way, i'm going to apologize in advance for in a few months, because that's when i'll be getting back from competition and all it is is 2 days of, "well, it's a good photo, but there's a finger out of place there. we'll give you an average." ugh.

part 2: the slightly more light-hearted update of my life
as you have probably noticed i have been uploading a ton more lately, and this makes me very happy :). also it is fall, which also makes me happy, except i miss summer a little. and of course, what comes after fall is winter, and i am NOT happy about that. you know how i think the seasons should go? spring-summer-fall-spring-summer-fall. it would be glorious. also, halloween is generally my least favorite holiday. but this year i am quite excited because i have a fun halloween party to go to, and my friend and i are dressing up as glinda and elphaba from wicked! my costume is custom made and everything. etsy.com is the best website ever.

part 3: general wishes for the future
#1-hoping to take some straight up bokeh shots now that i have my 2.8 lens! also going to try some more self portraits, since i haven't done any of those in a while. also thinking about doing one of those 365 type projects, except not with self portraits. any ideas?
#2-i'm thinking of maybe creating some journals that consist of just questions for you guys once in a while, since i cannot create polls. personally i love polls/quizzes/surveys, and i feel like it will help me to get to know some people on here a little better.
#3-i am really wanting to get a bunch more ear piercings done, and also to get my teeth fixed. also to get the h1n1 vaccine and hpv vaccine (sounds wierd, but i just went to the doctor and now i really want to protect myself from all this stuff). i think that's it.

thanks for listening!
